Community policing meet in Barguna: Call for united resistance against drugs, crimes

Barguna Sadar Correspondent

To foster public awareness and strengthen collective action against drugs, gambling, juvenile delinquency, child marriage, and violence against women and children, a central community policing convention was held in Barguna.

Organized by the Barguna District Police, the multi-sectoral coordination meeting took place at the District Police Lines Drill Shed on Thursday.

The meeting was presided over by Barguna Superintendent of Police Md. Kudrat-E-Khuda, PPM-Service, and attended by senior law enforcement officials, public representatives, political figures, civil society leaders, and members of the local community policing committees. Participants highlighted the critical need to build active police-public partnerships to build grassroots resistance against shifting criminal trends.

"Narcotics do not just ruin an individual; they dismantle whole families, destabilize social structures, and destroy the future of an entire nation," SP Md. Kudrat-E-Khuda stated in his presidential address. "To safeguard our next generation, enforcing existing legal statutes is not enough—we must cultivate robust social resistance and active community awareness."

The police chief reiterated that the Barguna District Police is strictly maintaining a "zero-tolerance" policy against drug syndicates. He assured that targeted anti-narcotic and anti-gambling sweeps will be expanded across the district. He added, however, that eliminating crime permanently cannot be accomplished by law enforcement agencies alone, requiring instead the active cooperation of teachers, guardians, religious leaders, and public representatives.

Addressing guardians directly, the SP advised them to monitor their children's daily behavioral shifts, understand their friend circles, and spend quality time with them, noting that creating a safer society begins with home-level vigilance. He urged citizens from all strata to assist the police force in transforming Barguna into a secure and peaceful district.

The coordination meeting was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police (Patharghata Circle) Shahed Ahmed Chowdhury, the Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of various district police stations, presidents and general secretaries of regional community policing units, and senior district police officials.
