National Review Committee on the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources has recommended appointing a reputed international legal and investigative agency to probe major power and energy contracts signed during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure.
The committee is currently examining seven power plants, including Adani and Payra, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said on Sunday (Nov 24).
In a resolution led by Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury, the committee suggested that the interim government hire an international agency to assist in reviewing major power generation contracts signed between 2009 and 2024. It also requested more time to analyze other contracts thoroughly.
The committee is collecting evidence aligned with international arbitration laws and processes to review or cancel these agreements.
“To achieve this, we recommend engaging one or more top-tier international legal and investigative agencies immediately,” the resolution stated.
The committee aims to ensure that the investigations meet international standards and are acceptable for global arbitration and negotiations.
Among the contracts under detailed review are: Adani (Godda) BIFPCL 1,234.4 MW coal power plant, Payra 1,320 MW coal-fired thermal power plant, Meghnaghat 335 MW dual-fuel power plant, Ashuganj 195 MW gas power plant, Banshkhali 612 MW coal power plant, Meghnaghat 583 MW dual-fuel power plant, and Meghnaghat 584 MW gas/LNG power plant.
