Coast Guard seized Indian clothes worth Tk 16 cr in N'ganj

The Coast Guard has seized a huge quantity of sarees, chadors, three-pieces and lehengas imported from India worth around 16 crore taka in Narayanganj.
Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taki, Media Officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters confirmed this on Saturday afternoon.
Based on secret information, it was learned that a consignment of illegal Indian goods evading customs would enter Dhaka via Narayanganj. Based on the information received, a special operation was conducted by Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Pagla on the Dhaka route from Narayanganj on the night of November 22.
During the operation, when a suspicious truck was signaled to stop by the Coast Guard in the area adjacent to Shibu Market under Fatullah Police Station, it tried to flee by disobeying the signal.
Then the Coast Guard's expeditionary team chased the truck and seized the truck along with the driver. Later, the truck was searched and the truck was seized along with 5,338 pieces of Indian sarees, 1245 pieces of chadar, 186 pieces of three-pitch and 29 pieces of lehenga. The estimated market value of the seized goods is about 16,04,87,000/- (Taka sixteen crore four lakh eighty seven thousand only).
The further legal action will be taken in this regard.
