In an operation conducted by the Bangladesh Coast Guard in the Sundarbans on Tuesday , one active member of the notorious  'Boro Jahangir Bahini ' was arrested along with arms and ammunition.

 Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the matter through a press release on Tuesdsy noon.

According to the press release, taking advantage of Coast Guard members being deployed on election duty for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, certain unscrupulous groups attempted to become active again in the Sundarbans. However, with a firm commitment to keeping the Sundarbans free from piracy, the Coast Guard has already launched special combing operations.

As part of this effort, based on secret information, a special joint operation was conducted at 4:00 am on Tuesday in  Narayanpur area under Koyra Police Station. The operation was carried out by Coast Guard Base Mongla, Outpost Nalian, Station Koyra, in coordination with the police. During the operation, Afzal Sardar (32), an active member of the notorious Boro Jahangir Bahini of the Sundarbans, was arrested.

Subsequently, based on information obtained during preliminary interrogation, another operation was conducted at 11:00 am near the Pashakhali Forest Office under Mongla Police Station. During the raid, one shotgun, one single-barrel gun, 21 rounds of live cartridges, and one walkie-talkie set were recovered. 

It is learnt  that after joint operations led by the Coast Guard began in the Sundarbans following the election, the arrested pirate member, out of fear, buried the recovered arms and ammunition in the area near Pashakhali Forest Office and went into hiding in the Narayanpur area of Koyra.
