Coast Guard deployed to maintain peace, order in national election in coastal areas
Bangladesh Coast Guard have been deployed in Coastal areas to maintain peace and order ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum 2026
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq provided this information in a press release on Saturday morning.
Since its inception, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has played a vital role in ensuring the security of the country’s vast sea, coastal, and riverbank areas. Alongside this, through various operations to protect the lives and properties of the people, the Coast Guard has become a symbol of trust for coastal communities.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard is determined to ensure that the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum 2026, scheduled for 12 February, are conducted freely, fairly, and peacefully. For this purpose, the Coast Guard has been deployed since 18 January and will continue to serve for a total of 28 days until 14 February 2026, at coastal and riverbank remote and strategically important areas under its jurisdiction.
In this context, Coast Guard personnel under the Western Zone will be responsible for 66 polling centers across 16 unions in the designated electoral areas of Dakop, Koyra, and Mathbaria upazilas under Khulna-1, Khulna-6, and Pirojpur-3 constituencies. During this period, special intelligence surveillance, drone monitoring, regular patrolling, and necessary lawful measures will continue to be taken in risky and sensitive areas to create a festive voting environment.
The interim government has also arranged a referendum on the same day with the aim of building a accountable, welfare-oriented, and prosperous Bangladesh. Along with maintaining law and order during the election period, the Bangladesh Coast Guard remains vigilant and prepared to ensure the voting rights of the general public and to suppress any form of violence. Additionally, by assisting other law enforcement agencies and local administration, the Coast Guard will continue its efforts to ensure the overall safety of people of all religions and communities, along with their lives and properties, in the responsible areas of the Western Zone.
