A clash broke out between two villagers over loudspeaker announcement in Baraigram upazila of Natore.
At least 16 people were injured in the clash.
On Friday night around 8 pm, a clash first broke out between teenagers over a girl issue in the Shibpur School area. Later, the clash spread between Garmati Kolani and Shibpur villagers. As a result of this clash, on Sunday morning at around 9 am, Rubel Mandal and Nishat Mandal of Garmati Kolani village went to Shibpur market and were brutally beaten by 12/13 people who locked them in a house. When the news spread, the people of both the villages gathered over loudspeaker announcements and armed with indigenous weapons, started chasing each other, hurling bricks and stones.
Awal (34), Torun (28), Rabbi (22), Bulbul (28), Chabbir (20), Rubel Mandal (30) and Nishat Mandal (23) of Garmati Kolni village were injured in the clash. In addition, Uyaz Prang (70), Israel Prang (40), Adil (45), Kamrul (38), Abdul Barek (42), Miraj (45), Golam (50), Israel (48), Abdul Alim, and Zayeda (65) of Shibpur village were injured. Among them, Uyaz Pramanik has been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. The rest have been admitted and treated in various clinics.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, UNO Laila Jannatul Ferdous, Police Station OC Abdus Salam and local Gopalpur Union Parishad Chairman Abdus Samad reached the spot and rescued the detained Rubel Mondal and Nishat Mondal.
Baraigram Police Station OC Abdus Salam said that additional police have been deployed in the area. Md. Awal from Garmati Colony and Israel Prang from Shibpur village have filed separate cases. However, no one has been arrested in this regard.
