The Chittagong Hill Tracts Jana Sanghati Samiti has held a mass rally to mark the 27th anniversary of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord.
Ushaton Talukder, vice-president of the Parbatya Chittagong Jana Sanghati Samiti, was present as the chief guest at the public meeting organized at the gymnasium ground in Rangamati town on Monday morning.
A peace agreement was signed to end the unrest in the hills. But because the agreement has not been fully implemented, discrimination and an uneasy environment are being observed in the hills, said Ushatan Talukder, a top leader of the Jana Samhati Samiti and former member of parliament.
The rally, chaired by Parbatya Chittagong Jana Sanghati Samiti Co-General Secretary U Win Maung Jolly, was addressed by educationist Shishir Chakma, Parbatya Chittagong Pahari Chhatra Parishad Central Committee General Secretary Romain Chakma, Jana Samhati Samiti Affairs Secretary, Maha Chhatra Affairs Secretary Jewel Chakma, Women's Association leader Ashika Chakma, Jana Samhati Samiti leader Arun Tripura, Sushil Bikash Chakma and other leaders.
It is noteworthy that on December 2, 1997, the Chittagong Hill Tracts Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) signed the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord with the then government to establish peace among the people living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
