Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Sunday handed over a cheque of USD 20,000 to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus for the Flood Relief Fund of the Chief Adviser from the embassy.

During a courtesy meeting at state guesthouse Jamuna, the Ambassador said the Chinese Red Cross would also donate USD 100,000 as humanitarian aid to Bangladesh's flood affected people.

He said Bangladesh was at the crossroads but "the people of Bangladesh will overcome the challenges."

Bangladesh has experienced its worst flooding in years, and the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh deeply empathized with the situation.

Upon learning of the extensive damage and urgent needs in the affected areas, the Chinese Embassy immediately began preparing to provide necessary relief supplies.

In the face of the significant challenges posed by the flooding in Bangladesh, the Chinese Embassy has demonstrated the deep friendship between the peoples of China and Bangladesh through concrete actions, said the Embassy.

Minister Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission Liu Yuyin, on behalf of the Embassy, donated ready-to-eat meals (Khichuri), drinking water, and essential living supplies to the hardest-hit area of Feni.

This initial batch of relief supplies will benefit 2,000 people. In the coming week, the relief donations will continue, providing food and supplies to a total of 6,000 people.

To convey warmth to the disaster victims, the Chinese Embassy specially prepared the food according to local dietary habits and distributed it while still hot, aiming to provide comfort and support to those in need.

As the floodwaters recede and displaced residents gradually return to their homes, the Embassy plans to distribute food packages and other supplies to 1,300 households (approximately 5,200 people) to help them rebuild their homes.

Each food package contains 25 kilograms of rice, 2 liters of cooking oil, 2 kilograms of lentils, 2 packets of sugar, 1 packet of salt, and 2 kilograms of flour. The total value of the relief project is Tk 6 million.

Minister Counselor Liu Yuyin said as Bangladesh faces this sudden flooding, the Chinese people feel deeply for the victims and hope to offer their modest assistance to help the people of Bangladesh overcome this difficult time as soon as possible.

“We are confident that, with the joint efforts of the interim government and the people of Bangladesh, the country will overcome the current difficulties and rebuild a better home,” he said.

This donation not only provides strong support for Bangladesh's flood relief efforts but also represents another instance of cooperation between the peoples of China and Bangladesh under the spirit of friendship and mutual assistance.

The Chinese Embassy said they will continue to closely monitor the development of the disaster in Bangladesh and is willing to provide further necessary support to help the Bangladeshi people through this challenging period.
