Staff Correspondent
A meeting between senior police officials and protesting police personnel, held in Rajarbagh on Friday afternoon, was abruptly ended due to chaos.
The meeting was organised to address the 11-point demands raised by the protesting police personnel.
Home Affairs Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain was scheduled to attend as the chief guest, but he could not make it.
During the meeting, police personnel expressed their frustrations and grievances.
Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Mainul Islam along with RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman and DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan, were present at the meeting.
However, when the IGP began speaking, the police personnel started causing a commotion. During this time, an agitated group of police personnel physically assaulted an Additional Deputy Inspector General. Following this, the IGP and other senior officials left the meeting without concluding it.
During the meeting, IGP Mainul Islam promised that modern medical treatment would be arranged for injured police personnel, and foreign consultants would be brought in if necessary.
He also assured that substantial compensation would be provided to the families of deceased police personnel.
Addressing the police personnel, the IGP said, "The 11-point demands you have raised will be discussed on Sunday in a meeting with representatives of the police at the Home Ministry. No junior police officer will be subjected to harassment by a senior officer."
However, the protesting police personnel immediately rejected this proposal, insisting that the adviser to the Home Ministry must come to Rajarbagh and that the discussion should take place there.
