Chamber submits letter to City Corporation demanding traffic, drainage dolutions in N'ganj

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj

The Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce has submitted a letter to the City Corporation administrator urging immediate action to resolve the city’s traffic congestion and complete ongoing drainage works before Eid-ul-Azha. On Wednesday the letter was handed over by a Chamber delegation led by Vice President Mohammad Abu Jafar.

The letter specifically requested a halt to any new road excavations for drainage construction during the Eid season and rapid completion of already ongoing work. It also urged proper cleaning of existing drains to facilitate the smooth transport of essential goods, sacrificial animals, and ease of movement for Eid shoppers and the general public.

Present during the meeting were Chamber Directors Sohel Akter, Md. Golam Sarwar (Saeed), Ahmedur Rahman Tonu, and Shree Bikash Chandra Saha; along with General Secretary of the Narayanganj District Shop Owners Association M.A. Shahed Shaheen; Organizing Secretary Md. Nizam Uddin; Joint Secretary Md. Ibrahim Raju; and Executive Members Md. Jamil Ahmed and Md. Abdullah Al Liton.

Earlier, at a Chamber consultation meeting held on May 13, stakeholders such as bankers, hospital owners, restaurant owners, Jamdani traders, and shopkeepers all echoed the sentiment that even light rain causes severe waterlogging and traffic problems. They emphasized that drainage work must be completed quickly and no new road digging should be initiated before Eid.
