CCC evicts over 200 shops in Bahaddarhat to clear footpaths
Chattogram City Correspondent
The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) conducted an eviction drive in Bahaddarhat to clear footpaths of illegal encroachments. Led by Executive Magistrate Chaiti Sarbabidya on Sunday morning, the operation removed around 200 makeshift shops occupying roads and footpaths in the area.
During the drive, one individual was fined Tk 5,000 for conducting business on the footpath. According to CCC authorities, the campaign was aimed at ensuring smooth pedestrian movement and reducing traffic congestion in the city.
A CCC official stated, “Regular eviction drives are being carried out to keep footpaths free from illegal encroachments. This initiative will continue in the interest of city residents.”
Meanwhile, evicted shopkeepers have demanded rehabilitation, claiming they were severely affected as the drive was conducted without providing alternative arrangements.
CCC sources confirmed that such operations would be intensified in the future to take strict action against illegal occupants.
