Case filed against 100 people, including two former MPs for killing Jamaat worker in Koyra

Koyra (Khulna) Correspondent

A case has been filed in court in Khulna's Koyra after a long decade in the murder of a Jamaat-e-Islami worker on Thursday.

Plaintiff, Chafaron Nesa, wife of the deceased Zahidul Islam, filed the case in the Koyra Judicial Magistrate's Court. The court took cognizance of the case and ordered an FIR to be filed with the Koyra Police Station.

The case names 113 people, including two former MPs from Khulna-6 constituency. Most of them are leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliates. In addition, the names of 4 journalists have been mentioned in the case statement.

The case statement revealed that on February 12, 2013, a procession and rally were held in Koyra Sadar at the initiative of Jamaat against the death sentence of Jamaat's central leader Abdul Quader Mollah. On the way home after the rally, an attack was carried out by the leadership of the Awami League and its affiliates at the Jalal intersection of the upazila.  At least 29 people were injured in the attack. Among them, the husband of the plaintiff in the case, Zahidul Islam, was killed on the spot. At that time, Awami League workers also prevented the injured from being taken to the hospital.

The 52nd accused in the case is Kamal Hossain, general secretary of the Koyra Press Club. When asked, he said, "At the time of the incident mentioned in the case, I was working in a private organization in Khulna district city. I know nothing about the incident. It is embarrassing that my name is in the case."

The plaintiff in the case, Chobiron Nesa, said that her husband, Zahidul Islam, worked as a daily wage worker. She filed the case demanding justice for her husband's murder. However, she asked over the phone why she did not want to comment on the inclusion of journalists in the list of accused in the case.

In this regard, the Ameer of the Koyra Upazila branch of Jamaat, Mizanur Rahman, said,  the Awami League launched an armed attack on a peaceful protest rally on the day of the incident. Many leaders and activists were injured at that time. Among them, one was killed on the spot. At that time, no one dared to file a case.  Now the victim's family has filed a case seeking justice for the murder.

However, we have repeatedly said that no one's name should be intentionally implicated in the case. If someone is involved in the crime, it is necessary to take legal action against them. But no one should be accused in the case to humiliate or harass anyone. This calls into question the process of fair justice.
