A case has been filed in the name of 5 officials of the Irrigation Committee, including the President of the Irrigation Committee, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, on the allegation of illegal transfer of irrigation at Jhenaigati.

The case was filed by Farsa Mia, son of late Ash Salam of Dakshin Kanduli village of Dhanshail union of the upazila.

The defendants are Jhenaigati Upazila Irrigation Committee President, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, General Manager of Sherpur Palli Vidyut Samiti, Assistant General Manager of Jhenaigati Upazila Palli Vidyut Samiti, Assistant Engineer (Minor Irrigation) BADC Sherpur Zone and Member Secretary Upazila Irrigation Committee, PUC Palli Vidyut Samiti Jhenaigati along with 7 The suit was filed seeking a permanent injunction against John. It is learned that farmer Farsa Mia installed a shallow tube well in his land in 2000 to produce crops.

Through the said irrigation pump, the farmer Farsa Mia was cultivating his own land as well as the land of his neighbours. In the current Boro season, farmer Farsa Mia's nephew installed a tube well within 10 feet of Farsa Mia's tube well outside the rules under the influence of the influential Khalilur Rahman of the same village.

The Upazila Irrigation Committee gave permission to set up his tubewell. It is known that according to the irrigation policy, the distance from one tube well to another tube well is required to be 2000 feet. But the Upazila Irrigation Committee illegally issued permission to Khalilur Rahman to set up the irrigation pump without paying attention to the rules and regulations.

Farmer Farsa Mia filed this lawsuit in Sherpur Assistant Judge Court demanding a permanent ban on Khalilur Rahman's illegally installed irrigation pump. In the light of the case, the court suspended all the activities of Khalilur Rahman's irrigation pump installation and ordered him to respond to all the disputes in the court. Irrigation Committee Member Secretary Assistant Engineer Wasim Akram said that what can be done about the matter will be decided by the Irrigation Committee meeting.

Abdullah Al Mahmud Bhuiyan, President of the Upazila Irrigation Committee, said, "If a case is filed in the court, it is a matter between the court and us." Answer will be given as per the order of the court.
