CARE celebrates 75 years of development partnership in Bangladesh

CARE, the leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, is celebrating 75 years of development partnership in Bangladesh. Founded in 1945, the organization has over seven decades of experience providing emergency assistance in crises.

Officially started in 1949, CARE Bangladesh has played an important role in the reconstruction of war-torn Bangladesh since its independence in 1971. It has continued to operate as a trusted development partner of the Government of Bangladesh for the past few decades.

The organization celebrated 75 years of presence in Bangladesh today with various events.

“CARE Bangladesh is currently working in multiple programmatic areas: – Health and Nutrition, Women and Youth Empowerment, Humanitarian and Climate Action, intending to work in Food and Agricultural Systems soon,The 2030 country program strategy indicates that with the four impact drivers—gender equality, locally-led, market-based approaches, and resilience building—CARE Bangladesh aims to ensure that 15 million people in Bangladesh, especially women, and girls, are leading gender-equal and resilient lives by 2030”

CARE Bangladesh Country Director Ram Das said this while speaking at a "Meet the Press" event organized in its Dhaka office on Saturday morning.

“In FY23, CARE Bangladesh reached 5.3 million people through 48+ projects, of which 64% were female. CARE Bangladesh ranks as the 2nd highest contributor among all CARE countries in terms of reach,” he added.

Ram Das talked about the organization's rich history, current status, and future direction with journalists.

He said “CARE’s emergency responses focus on the needs of the most vulnerable populations, particularly girls and women. In FY22, CARE worked in 68 countries, reaching more than 25.4 million people through 691 projects”

Later in the afternoon, the 75th anniversary was celebrated with the participation of the employees of the organization by performing the national anthem at the CARE Bangladesh Dhaka office.
Michelle Nunn, President and CEO of CARE Global, participated online and greeted all her colleagues in Bangladesh.

CARE Bangladesh's special logo was unveiled as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations. CARE Bangladesh's future strategy and new brand guidelines were presented and organized cultural program.
