
Bus-pickup crash leaves 2 dead in Faridpur

A pickup van driver and his helper were killed and eight others were injured after their vehicle collided head-on with a passenger bus at Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur district on Friday afternoon.
The accident took place around 2pm on the Dhaka-Barishal highway at Zadur-riya area under Dangi union of Nagarkanda upazila.
However, the identities of the driver and helper could not known yet as it was not possible to rescue the person who died in the driver's seat of the pickup even till 4 pm.
Citing witnesses, Bhanga Highway Police officials said the Golden Line Paribahan bus was heading towards Dhaka from Faridpur. On the way, it collided head-on with the Faridpur-bound pickup van when the bus tried to overtake a vehicle, leaving the pickup van driver and helper dead on the spot.
The tragic accident leaves eight passengers of the bus critically injured and the driver to be stuck in his seat dead.
However, it is not yet possible to recover his body and the injured were sent to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex where they were undergoing treatment.
Confirming the matter, Bhanga Highway Police Station sub-inspector Abdullahel Baki said on information, police rushed there and started rescue operation to recover the body of the driver from the inside of his vehicle.
The both vehicles will be taken in police custody and legal actions will be taken upon investigation, added the police official.
