BRUR files case against murderers of Martyr Abu Sayeed

A case has been filed against former Chhatra League president Pomel Barua as the main accused in the murder of martyr Abu Sayeed in the July Revolution, naming 71 students, officials and employees, including eight police officers and teachers.
Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Registrar Harun- Or- Rashid filed the case on Wednesday afternoon. Tajhat Police Station OC Shah Alam Sardar confirmed the matter.
The remaining accused in the case are Deputy Police Commissioner Abu Maruf Hossain, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Shahanur Alam Patwari, Assistant Police Commissioner Al Amran Hossain, Arifuzzaman, former Tajhat Police Station OC Rabiul Islam, BRUR Police Fari In-charge Bibhuti Bhushan Roy, Constable Sujan Chandra Roy.
In this regard, a responsible official of the university told this correspondent, who did not want to be named, that teachers and students of Begum Rokeya University played an important role in the anti-discrimination movement in Rangpur. Abu Sayeed, a student of the English Department of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur was the first martyr in the movement. He was shot dead by the police on July 16 because he was a frontline fighter in the movement.
When the video of martyr Abu Sayeed's martyrdom with his arms outstretched and his chest exposed to bullets went viral in the country and abroad, it created a huge stir in the country and the world. Sheikh Hasina fled the country to India on August 5.
Rokeya University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shawkat Ali said that after achieving second independence after August 5, an investigation committee was formed to identify those involved in suppressing the movement and waging violence in BRUR. During the investigation, 71 accused including teachers, students, officials and employees were identified and confirmed after reviewing the video and pictures of that time. After reviewing everything, a case was filed on Wednesday in the name of more than a hundred unknown persons, mentioning the names of 71 people. He said that the law will take its own course and all the teachers and students demand punishment for those responsible. He said that this case was filed only after 100% confirmation.
It is necessary to say that recently the students of Rangpur Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur have raised their voices against the university administration, blaming that the university authorities are prevaricating to file a case against the murderers of Shahid Abu Sayeed.
The students also blame that the accused staff as well as teachers of BRUR are getting promotions under the shadow of University administration though the University authorities are denying the blame from the beginning.
However, after filing the case all sections of people of Bangladesh are hoping that they will see exemplary punishment of the culprits who were involved in the murder of Shahid Abu Sayeed.
