British Council delegation visits Sylhet City Corporation

A delegation led by British Council South Asia Regional Director Helen Sylvester paid a courtesy call on Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abu Ahmad Siddiqui NDC at Nagar Bhawan on Thursday afternoon.
During the meeting, Abu Ahmad Siddiqui welcomed the members of the delegation with flowers.
After that, the leaders of the delegation exchanged views with the officials of the corporation.
During the exchange, British Council South Asia Regional Director Helen Sylvester said that the British Council has 65 years of cultural relations with the people of Bangladesh. At present, various programs of the British Council are being implemented in every district of Bangladesh.
The British Council is working to promote friendly relations between the people of Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, exchange of talent and culture and development of various skills.
We are working to create aspirations for a better life by making the people of Bangladesh confident by using their talent and skills. We are trying to contribute to cultural bridging, higher education and English education between Bangladesh and UK partners. He assured to give the students of Sylhet region the opportunity to read books, e-books and journals of the e-library of the British Council.
He promised to continue the activities in the future in important areas like education, skills, economic inclusion and civic participation through strong partnerships with the government, private sector and civil society. He promised to work jointly with the Sylhet City Corporation for the development of education in the Sylhet City Corporation area.
He expressed hope that Shahjalal University of Science and Technology will also work. Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abu Ahmad Siddiqui highlighted the long-standing friendly relationship between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom and expressed hope that the relationship between the two countries would be stronger in the future through joint activities. He requested the British Council to continue its cooperation in the development of Sylhet's education system.

Colonel (Retd.) Ekalim Abdin, Slum Development Officer. Abul Fazal, Education, Culture, Library and Social Welfare Officer Nehar Ranjan Purkayastha were present.
