Brigadier General Nasir Uddin appointed DG of BIRDEM

Brigadier General (Retd.) Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed has been appointed as the new Director General of the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM).
The appointment was confirmed through an official letter issued by the Bangladesh Diabetic Association (BADAS). He assumed the responsibility of Director General on September 14, 2026.
Prior to his appointment as Director General, Brigadier General (Retd.) Nasir Uddin Ahmed served BIRDEM as its Additional Director General and Director (Hospital and Logistics Services). During his tenure, he was involved in the administration and management of the country's leading specialised healthcare institution.
He also previously served as the Director of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he held a key administrative role in managing hospital services.
A seasoned medical professional and former Bangladesh Army officer, Brigadier General (Retd.) Nasir Uddin Ahmed has held various important positions in medical and healthcare services at home and abroad. He also served as the former Head of the Department and Consultant Specialist in Endocrinology at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
His appointment has brought renewed recognition to Chandpur, as he hails from a respected family of Bolakhal village under Hajiganj Municipality in Chandpur district. He is also the son of Dr. Abdus Sattar, a former Member of Parliament from Hajiganj.
With extensive experience in military healthcare, hospital administration and specialised medical services, Brigadier General (Retd.) Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed now takes charge of BIRDEM at a time when the institution continues to play a vital role in diabetes, endocrine and metabolic disease care in Bangladesh.
