Bricks PM's motorcade en route to Barishal; police probe underway
Mir Imran, Madaripur
An investigation has been launched after a stray brick fragment struck a security vehicle within the motorcade of Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tariq Rahman during his road journey to Barishal. Law enforcement agencies are currently reviewing the incident to determine whether it was an accidental occurrence or a deliberate act of sabotage.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 AM on Monday (July 13) near the Sadhur Bridge bus stand area on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway under Madaripur district. The event has triggered widespread discussion across social media platforms after video clips emerged online.
Witnesses reported that thousands of people had lined up on both sides of the highway to greet Prime Minister Tariq Rahman as his motorcade traveled from Dhaka. The Prime Minister made several brief stops along the route to acknowledge the crowds and accept their greetings.
A 1-minute-and-49-second video clip circulated on social media showed the Prime Minister standing inside a customized bus within the convoy, waving to the crowd. At that moment, a piece of brick flew in and struck the front portion of the third security vehicle positioned toward the rear of the convoy. Although security personnel immediately took up alert positions to assess the situation, no injuries were reported, and the Prime Minister’s travel schedule proceeded without any disruption.
Local police are examining video footage, interviewing eyewitnesses, and analyzing the surrounding environment of the spot to clarify the chain of events.
Confirming the incident, Madaripur Superintendent of Police Md. Habibur Rahman said, "It has been confirmed that a piece of brick hit the front of one of the convoy vehicles. We are currently analyzing the trajectory and circumstances to verify whether it was thrown intentionally." He assured the public that the situation remains fully under control and urged against speculation while police compile the necessary evidence.
According to police sources, investigators are reviewing CCTV and mobile recordings from nearby establishments to identify anyone who might have acted suspiciously. While online commentators remain divided on whether the flying brick was a random accident caused by passing traffic or a targeted attempt, law enforcement authorities have advised the public to wait for the final investigation report.
