The Brahmanbaria District Council financed the distribution of sewing machines among 60 hardworking, unemployed women today, aiming to alleviate regional poverty and generate self-employment opportunities.
The distribution ceremony was held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Sarod Manch of the Sur Samrat Di Alauddin Sangeetangan.
The event was presided over by the Administrator of the Brahmanbaria District Council, Alhaj Sirajul Islam Siraj, while Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, Member of Parliament for the Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar-Bijoynagar) constituency, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal highlighted deep-seated social vulnerabilities, noting that structural issues within the domestic social system often push young girls into early marriages, leaving women marginalized and neglected within both families and wider society. He emphasized that establishing dedicated industrial parks in Brahmanbaria is vital to transforming local women into self-reliant entrepreneurs, alongside implementing comprehensive training programs across diverse technical trades.
Echoing these views, District Council Administrator Sirajub Islam remarked that women traditionally manage the core economic realities of household livelihoods, often possessing a clearer understanding of domestic struggles than men. He asserted that when women achieve financial independence, their respect and structural evaluation within both the family unit and the community increase significantly.
The program was attended by special guests, including Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Ehsan Murad, Additional Superintendent of Police Obaidur Rahman, former Municipal Mayor and District BNP leader Hafizur Rahman Molla Kachi, District BNP Vice-President Shafiqul Islam, and Brahmanbaria Press Club President Jabed Rahim Bijon.
The event, moderated by District BNP Organizing Secretary Asaduzzaman Shahin, commenced with a welcome address by the program coordinator, Brahmanbaria District Council Executive Officer (Acting) Abdul Kader Mia. Maulana Sabbir Ahmed recited from the Holy Quran, while Yasmin Akter and women entrepreneur Laila Sultana spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries.
