Book Review : Need to read Governance of Bangladesh

This book provides a thorough study of current governance concerns in Bangladesh while focusing on the multifaceted nature of innovation.

Although each chapter approaches those problems from a different discipline standpoint, they are all concerned with the existing innovation governance process. The authors demonstrate how the pursuit of a digital Bangladesh is influencing both the innovation and public service delivery processes. The book explores innovation in public services in Bangladesh, focusing on digital agenda principles, e-governance transformation, human resource capacity, public sector organization changes, healthcare delivery innovations, civil society engagement, and people's participation practices.

This book examines containment strategies used in Bangladesh to stop the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing, isolation, and quarantine. It draws attention to the government's inadequate funding and incapacity to sustain preventative measures. The chapter highlights how crucial it is to put preventative measures into place and improve healthcare facilities in order to stop additional transmission at the community level.

The book explores innovation, a complex phenomenon influenced by various perspectives, and highlights challenges in public administration and service delivery, particularly in Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for sustainable services that align with citizen needs.

The focus of the book is on service delivery and digital Bangladesh. ICT has the power to change a traditional society into a knowledge-based, information society, improving economic growth and development, employment possibilities, income distribution, healthcare, education, and government efficiency.

Chapter 4 examines Bangladesh's human resource capacity for public service delivery, focusing on administrative reform and performance management. It examines the public sector's performance and implications for high-quality services, drawing from literature on capacity building in the public sector.

It explains what good governance is and how civil society can make sure it's adhered to. The study shows that civil society has significantly contributed to sustainable environmental governance while confronting several obstacles since Bangladesh's independence. Despite obstacles since independence, Bangladesh's thriving civil society has made a substantial contribution to ecologically sustainable governance, demonstrating the significance of a close relationship between civil society, efficient government, and growth.

In Chapter 7, the goals are to evaluate the level of public participation in the Union Parishads' governance process, review the current legal environment, pinpoint obstacles to public participation, and suggest ways to overcome them. Social contract ideas encourage people's empowerment and accountability while highlighting the involvement of excluded and impoverished groups in the legal system.

The book explores Asia's dynamism, addressing issues like deflation, aging population, poverty, and environmental problems. It highlights the diversity of Asian nations and provides multidisciplinary analysis. It includes research from various perspectives and unique findings from Asia, addressing regional and urban challenges.

A selection of the many subjects covered in the book include the theory of social cost and benefit analysis, public investment criteria, socioeconomic vulnerability to disasters, food security and policy, industrial clustering, water resource management, international trade bloc, migration, land policy, planning for information and communication technology, consumer behavior, and downtown regeneration.

The book explores the economic expansion in Asia, highlighting pressing issues like deflation, uneven growth, poverty, aging societies, and environmental issues. It emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in regional science and the need for methodological development. The book is accessible in English due to language difficulties and encourages global recognition of regional and urban concerns.

The book, focusing on original research from Asia, may not be accessible globally due to language issues. Its broad range of regional and urban concerns may limit its ability to address pressing issues. The integrative approach may also hinder in-depth examination of some subjects.
