BNP will run country with consensus in future: Annie

BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie today said if the BNP comes to power independently in the future, the country will not be governed the country unilaterally.

“BNP will take steps for bicameral parliament to rule the country based on consensus as per BNP's 31-point agenda,” he said in the award giving ceremony of the late Arafat Rahman Coco Memorial T-20 Cricket Tournament at Lakshmipur Government College ground today.

BNP’s 31 point reform agenda includes several essential reforms needed urgently. The reforms have also been acknowledged by the interim government, he said.

The urgent reforms should be completed quickly with the input of all parties, and elections should be held afterward, he said.

Annie said, “For stability, Bangladesh needs normal politics, a socially harmonious environment and economic discipline.

He emphasized that inflation must be controlled and a comprehensive approach should be taken to build a prosperous Bangladesh.

He criticized the previous government, saying, “It had taken the country backward. Reforms are necessary to recover the losses; he said adding that a government enjoying true representation of the people is need for this

Shahid Uddin also said, “BNP is a popular, modern, and moderate political party. After August 5, a qualitative change has emerged in the country’s politics.”

“Now, the people want a qualitative change in leadership. If a moderate party like BNP cannot provide this, no one else will be able to do that,” he said.

Annie also stressed the need for national unity saying, everyone must stay united to prevent any conspiracy against Bangladesh.

Chaired by Bangladesh Football Federation Vice-President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, the function was also addressed by local sports organizer Mahbub Alam Mamun and District BNP Joint Convener Advocate Hasibur Rahman.

The tournament, organized by the College Road Sports Club, drew participation of 30 teams.
