Clashes erupted between two groups of local BNP in two separate places centered on the spread of dominance in Araihajar upazila of Narayanganj.

At least 12 people were injured on both sides. The clash took place on Wednesday in Bara Binairchar of Brahmandi Union of the upazila and Kalagachia area of Gopaldi Municipality.

According to the locals, there is a dispute between Panir Hossain, supported by former BNP MP Ataur Rahman Angur, and followers of Emon Hossain, supported by Nazrul Islam Azad, BNP Executive Committee Dhaka divisional secretary of the same area. Last Tuesday (October 8) morning, there was a verbal dispute between Emon and Panir Hossain over the occupation of disputed land.

Panir Hossain bribed Emon's mother-in-law with that. This led to tension between the two sides. On Wednesday around 11 am and 2 pm, the clash took place after a chase between the two sides. At least 6 people including Billal Hossain, Panir Hossain, Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq were injured. On receiving the information, Araihajar Police Station came to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in the face of the anti-discrimination student movement, the local BNP organization leaders and activists ransacked the Gopaldi Municipal Jubo League office on August 5. A dispute arose between the local BNP leaders over the building of their own office by Araihaza Upazila Tarun Dal and 2nd Ward BNP General Secretary Masum Dewan.

Local BNP leaders proposed to build their party office there. As Masum Dewan did not agree to this, there was a verbal altercation with the local BNP leaders and at one stage, a clash took place. At least 6 people were injured.

Enayet Hossain, OC of Araihazar police station, said that the situation is calm. However, to avoid any untoward situation, police patrolling has been intensified in and around the incident site.
