A court here today acquitted BNP Chairperson's Adviser Zainul Abedin Faruque from a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for not submitting wealth statement.
Dhaka Divisional Special Judge SM Ziaur Rahman passed the order as 'the prosecution failed to prove the charges framed against Faruque'.
According to the case documents, the ACC in 1999 issued a notice, asking Zainul Abedin Faruque to submit his wealth statement from July 9 to August 22 of that year. But the former lawmaker failed to submit the statement.
The ACC on January 19, 2000, filed a case against the BNP leader and submitted a charge-sheet on June 17, 2001. The court framed charges against him on March 23, 2006, initiating the trial officially.
A total of three witnesses were examined in the trial.
