A Dhaka court Wednesday placed Rajshahi district BNP Convener Abu Sayeed Chand on a two-day remand in a case filed on charges of issuing a ‘death threat’ to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a public rally.
Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasibul Haque passed the order after Md Zakir Hossain, an inspector of Chawkbazar Police Station and the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court with 10-day remand prayer.
Chhatra League leader named Ashikur Rahman Anu filed this case in the capital's Chawkbazar Police Station on May 25.
Earlier on 19 May, Abu Sayeed Chand reportedly made the threat at a rally organised by the BNP Rajshahi district and city units to demonstrate against harassment and arrests of the opposition activists in various fictitious cases and government corruption.
Later, several cases were filed against Abu Sayeed Chand under the Anti-Terrorism Act for his alleged death threat to Sheikh Hasina.
