
BNP activist arrested after beating Chhatra League leader in front of UN

Police arrested a US BNP activist. in connection with the beating of a banned Chhatra League leader in front of the UN headquarters in New York, USA.
He is identified as Riaz Rahman Hossain. The incident took place at around 2:30 pm local time on Friday. The victim has been accused of beating Hridoy Mia, a Chhatra League leader.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has arrested Riaz for physically assaulting Hridoy Mia.
The police took Riaz to jail in handcuffs. The NYPD has admitted Hridoy to a hospital in Manhattan.
Hridoy is a candidate for the presidency of the US branch of the Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Chhatra League leader Hridoy Mia told The Country Today "I was walking home after our protest when a young man came and abused me and the Awami League. I said, 'I don't know you, why are you abusing me?' As soon as I said this, he suddenly punched me in the head, neck and face."
Hridoy said, "When I fell to the ground, the policeman standing nearby came and caught both of us.
Later, another policeman came and said, 'Riyaz hit me first.' Later, the police let me go and took me to the hospital in their car."
US BNP Senior Vice President and Central Executive Member Gias Ahmed said, "Riyaz is one of our workers. I went to the police station. We talked, I hope he will be released very soon."
Gias Ahmed further said, 'That Chhatra League leader abused BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in foul language at the airport. Out of that anger, Riaz beat him and broke two of his teeth. Chhatra League workers came to spoil our program. For this, he was beaten severely.'
