Border Guard Bangladesh seized smuggled goods worth Tk 152.08 crore during anti-smuggling operations conducted across the country, including border areas in March.The seized items included 7.958 kg of gold, 780 grams of silver, 25,173 pieces sarees, 10,701 pieces of three-piece suits/shirts/bed covers/blankets, 22,280 pieces ready-made garments, 33,889 meters of fabric, 564,357 cosmetic items, 1,762 imitation jewelry pieces, 47,52,196 fireworks, 6,929 cubic feet of timber, 3,236 kg of tea leaves, 25,656 kg of betel nuts, 163,384 kg of sugar, 10,690 kg of fertilizer, 97 liters of octane, 25,900 kg of coal, 212 kg of yarn/current nets, 522 mobile phones, 749 mobile displays, 86,781 glasses (optics), 12,731 kg of various fruits, 3,641 kg of edible oil, 951 kg of onions and garlic, 17,235 kg of cumin, 6,325 kg of raisins, 103,953 pieces of chocolates, 4 touch stone idols, 10 trucks/covered vans, 7 pickups, 2 private cars/microbuses, 4 trolleys, 17 boats, 20 CNG/e-rickshaws, 62 motorcycles, and 35 bicycles.In addition, weapons including 3 one-shot guns, 46 rounds of ammunition, and 33,100 rounds of lead bullets were also recovered during the period from March 1 ton March 31, says a media release of the BGB headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.Besides, significant amount of narcotic substances were also seized during the Anti-smuggling drives, which included 747,161 yaba tablets, 2.585 kg of heroin, 4.105 kg of cocaine, 16,242 bottles of phensedyl, 9,377 bottles of foreign liquor, 44 liters of local liquor, 1,235 cans of beer, 2,611 kg of cannabis, 155,239 packs of cigarettes and bidis, 185,134 pieces of narcotic tablets/injections, 5,340 bottles of Iskaf syrup, 55 bottles of Mckedil/Coffedil, 27,370,069 pieces of various medicines and tablets, 12 bottles of LSD, and 84,200 pieces of Anagra/Senegra tablets.In relation to the smuggling and illegal border-crossing activities, BGB arrested 134 smugglers, and 337 Bangladeshi nationals and 14 Indian nationals for illegally crossing the border. Furthermore, 647 Myanmar nationals attempting to illegally enter Bangladesh were returned to their country.Legal actions have been taken against the arrested individuals.
