BGB on strict vigilance on Dinajpur-Thakurgaon border to resist push-in

Mahidul Islam Ripon, Dinajpur

The border security situation has gained new importance with the possible push-in of alleged illegal citizens through various border areas of the country. Specially the border areas of Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts are being considered as potentially risky. In this situation, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is taking maximum precautions to keep the border secure.

Concerns have been raised in the border area after news emerged of discussions and preparations for the return of alleged illegal citizens residing in neighboring countries to Bangladesh, sources said.

At the same time, allegations of alleged push-in incidents by the Indian Border Security Force have also come to light in various border areas of the country.

To prevent possible illegal infiltration and push-ins, Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB) has already significantly increased intelligence surveillance and patrol activities in the border areas under its responsibility. Day and night patrols have been strengthened by identifying risky border points and river routes. Temporary check posts have been set up at potentially risky and unprotected places.

As part of modern technology-based surveillance, the use of night vision goggles, drones and binoculars has been increased. Special surveillance continues on organized broker gangs and people involved in illegal activities in the border areas. At the same time, preparations have been strengthened to deal with any situation through the collection and analysis of important information.

However, the activities of law enforcement agencies alone are not enough to ensure border security. BGB also considers the active participation of local people as very important. To this end, continuous public awareness meetings, miking and direct public relations activities are being conducted in the border areas. At night, patrol teams are warning the people living in the border areas through whistles and torch lights not to cross the border. Small warning teams have been formed in the border areas through close coordination with the local people.

Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB) Commander Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin Hasan said, "BGB is always uncompromising in preventing illegal push-ins. I have personally participated in public awareness meetings to make the border people aware. Company and BOP commanders are regularly conducting exchange of views and awareness activities with the local people. Our members are always alert and ready to deal with any situation."

He urged the people living in the border areas to inform the BGB as soon as they receive information about push-ins, illegal infiltration or any suspicious activities. The joint efforts of the people and the BGB are the biggest strength in border security.
