BGB detained middleman while smuggling teenage girl to India at Netrokona border

Netrokona Battalion (31 BGB) has arrested a broker while smuggling a girl to India through the border of Durgapur Upazila. They were arrested from the Battala area of Farangpara village in Durgapur Upazila on Saturday morning.

Netrokona Battalion (31 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. Touhidul Bari (PSC) said in a press release sent to journalists at 12:30 pm that BGB patrols in the border areas have been strengthened in the context of various push-in attempts by the BSF along various borders of the country. In continuation of this, a patrol team of Netrokona Battalion (31 BGB) Bhabanipur BOP arrested a person from the Battala area of Farangpara village near the border main pillar 1156/8 S at around 9 am on Saturday. The arrested person is Silver Chakma, son of deceased Enfont Nokret of Bharatpur village in Durgapur upazila of Netrokona.

The rescued girl is Ratri Sarkar (14), daughter of Rupak Sarkar of Boriganj village in Durgapur upazila. Initial interrogation revealed that most of Ratri Sarkar's relatives live in India. He took Silver Chakma's help to reach them. At that time, a BGB patrol team arrested them when they tried to cross the border illegally.

The process of handing over the arrested person and the rescued girl to Durgapur police station for taking necessary legal action is underway. He further said that the BGB will continue its activities to prevent human trafficking and illegal infiltration in the border areas.
