
BGB deployed countrywide amid ‘complete shutdown’

A total of 229 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the country in effort to maintain law and order amid the ‘Complete Shutdown’ programme announced by the quota reform protesters.
Shariful Islam, public relations officer at BGB headquarters, announced the deployment in a statement.
Earlier, the BGB personnel were deployed in eight districts including Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, Bogura, Rangpur and Rajshahi. BGB members were also stationed in the Jahangirnagar University and Rajshahi University areas.
Six people were killed in clashes involving quota protesters, pro-Awami League activists, and the police on Tuesday, leading to further demonstrations.
