Begum Khaleda Zia Memorial Football Tournament inaugurated in Birampur

The "Deshnetri Late Begum Khaleda Zia Memorial Football Tournament 2026," featuring teams from the four upazilas of the Dinajpur-6 constituency—Birampur, Nawabganj, Ghoraghat, and Hakimpur—commenced on Saturday afternoon.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Islam inaugurated the tournament amidst colorful celebrations at the Birampur Pilot High School ground.
Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, MP attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.
"Our objective is to nurture national-level athletes right from the grass-roots level," Dr. Zahid Hossain said in his speech, calling upon the youth to actively engage in sports and physical activities.
Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam, District BNP President and District Council Chairman Azizul Haq, Superintendent of Police Md. Zedan Al Musa, District BNP Vice President Atiqur Rahman Raja, and prominent physician Dr. Sharifa Karim Sworna were present at the event.
Leaders from various political and social tiers across Birampur, Nawabganj, Ghoraghat, and Hakimpur upazilas, alongside sports enthusiasts, players, and local dignitaries, attended the ceremony.
Organizers expressed optimism that the tournament would promote sports culture at the local level and help discover promising athletic talent from the region.
