
BCL activist killed in Sylhet

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist Arif Ahmad was brutally murdered by rival groups in Baluchar under Sylhet city.
Ankhi Begum, the mother of the deceased, filed a case at SMP's airport police station as the plaintiff. In the case, the names of 10 people including Ward Councilor No. 36 and former Acting President of Sylhet District Chhatra League Hiran Mahmud Nipu were mentioned.
Meanwhile, the former acting president of the District Chhatra League, Councilor Hiran Mahmud Nipu, was in the area after the murder of Chhatra League activist Arif. But after filing the case, Neepu left the area on the news of the police raid. Currently, his mobile phone is also switched off. Not only Nipui but also his fellow gunmen fled the area.
The police say that the operation to arrest Nipu is continuing. However, the police could not arrest Nipu and his accomplices till writing this report. Hiran Mahmud Nipu is the former Acting President of Sylhet District Chhatra League. After Pankaj Purkayastha, he got the responsibility of the District Chhatra League. But the Center was forced to dissolve the District Chhatra League committee due to his controversial activities. Despite losing the post of president, Nipu retained the dominance of the Baluchar group of the Chhatra League.
According to local residents, a circle of Chhatra League was formed under the leadership of Nipur in Baluchar. In his shelter, land grabbing, terrorism and extremism were going on in the area. They used to practice weapons openly in the area. Common people were always in fear. Nipu has been arrested several times by RAB-Police.
In the last city corporation election, he was elected as councilor of ward 36 which was newly included in Nipu metropolis. After Nipu won the election, his group's activists in the area became more reckless. They have given rise to several incidents in the last 5 months.
Last month, due to these reckless activities, Nipu and his forces made a human chain in Baluchar. However, there was no effective initiative of the administration to restore peace in the area.
In this situation, on November 15, Nipu group workers attacked Arif, a member of the district Chhatra League president, due to a previous dispute. When Arif's mother complained to the police station, Neepu and his forces brutally hacked Arif to death on the day he returned from the hospital. Arif's mother, Ankhi Begum, who was killed in the incident, filed a case at SMP's Airport Police Station on Wednesday night. Ward councilor Hiran Mahmud Nipu has been made the main accused in the case.
Other accused in the case are- Abdul Qayyum Anas of North Baluchar Al Islah residential area, Mamun Majumdar of the same area, Helal Miah of Shanti Bagh, Sharif Ahmad of Baluchar, Junaid of Baluchar Point, Anhaj Ahmad Roni of Baluchar Sonar Bangla area, Amir Ali of Al Islah area, Sultan of North Baluchar area. Ahmad and Sabuj Ahmad. On the day of the incident, the airport police raided and arrested Roni and Mamun.
SI Sujit Chakraborty The investigating officer of the case said that a lot of information will be obtained if the arrested 2 accused are remanded and interrogated. Apart from this, the police are on a mission to arrest the absconding accused.
