BCB President Papon ready to step down
Sports Desk
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan Papon has expressed his willingness to step down from his position.
Papon communicated to a senior BCB director over the phone from abroad over this decision, BCB sources said.
In a recent meeting, attended by 7-8 active BCB directors, one of them revealed Papon’s intention to resign.
However, according to the BCB constitution, he must formally submit his resignation to the board, which would then need to be approved in a board meeting.
Some directors expressed concerns that any significant changes in the BCB could negatively impact Bangladesh's hosting of the Women's T20 World Cup in October. The ICC is expected to make a final decision on August 20 regarding the tournament's venue.
Meanwhile, he was serving a fourth term as chief of the country’s cricket governing body.
BCB had been in jeopardy ever since the unrest in the country triggered by the student protest against the recently dissolved Sheikh Hasina government.
Nazmul had been in hiding with his wife in London since August 5 along with a few other influential board directors who are believed to have the backing of the former prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina.
