Bazlur Rahman appointed to UNGIS Consultation Group
Staff Correspondent
AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC), has been appointed to the Multistakeholder Consultation Group of the United Nations Group on the Information Society (UNGIS-MCG).
Mr Rahman will share his experience in inclusive digital development, community media, and access to information, representing Bangladesh and South Asia in global discussions on digital cooperation and WSIS outcome implementation. His focus will centre on a rights-based approach to digital development—linking internet governance, responsible artificial intelligence, digital diplomacy, and information integrity with democratic participation.
The UNGIS-MCG connects UNGIS with governments, business, civil society, technical communities, academia, and international bodies to foster dialogue and advisory feedback. UNGIS, an inter-agency mechanism established by the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination in 2006, currently comprises 31 members and 21 observers coordinating system-wide policy on ICTs for sustainable development.
BNNRC previously won the UN WSIS Prize in 2016 and was recognized as a WSIS Champion across six years, most recently in 2025.
