Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital : Hematology Laboratory, Medicine Department and Automation Activities inaugurated

For the first time, a hematology laboratory has been built at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Barisal. Along with this, a modern laboratory medicine department has been launched by expanding the pathology lab.

Hospital Director Brigadier General Dr. AKM Mashiul Munir inaugurated the Hematology Laboratory, Laboratory Medicine Department and Automation activities at 10 am on Sunday.
After the inauguration of the Hematology Laboratory and Laboratory Medicine Department on Block D on the 2nd floor of the main building of the hospital, a discussion meeting was held in the Surgery Seminar Hall on the 4th floor.
The meeting was moderated by Clinical Pathologist Dr. Afsana Sabrin, who said that the hospital's pathology lab has been expanded to include a modern laboratory medicine department. The modern laboratory medicine department is diagnosing patients quickly and accurately. In this new laboratory medicine department, sample collection and air-conditioned restrooms have been arranged for patients. Automation has been introduced in all the counters here. This is helping to increase the efficiency of the laboratory. As a result, lab work is becoming more efficient and transparent.
The modern laboratory medicine department has been equipped with multiple auto-analyzer machines for chemical analysis, special machines for blood counting and clotting, incubators for microbiology bacteria, viruses, and fungi testing, and automated culture systems.
At the discussion meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali, Head of the Department of Hematology, said that with the cooperation of Hospital Director Brigadier General Dr. AKM Moshiul Munir Sir, 15 years after the creation of the post, the medical activities of the Hematology Outpatient Department were launched at the hospital on August 3, 2025. There, work is underway to diagnose, treat, prevent diseases of blood and bone marrow, invent new treatment methods, techniques and increase public awareness about the disease. In continuation of this, the Hematology Laboratory was inaugurated today, October 12. In this laboratory, it will be possible to diagnose diseases related to blood cells, hemoglobin, blood proteins, bone marrow, platelets, blood vessels, spleen and clotting processes, hemophilia, bleeding disorders, thalassemia and blood cancer.
In the discussion meeting, Director Brigadier General Dr. AKM Moshiul Munir said, "Today is a happy day for us, for the first time in Barisal, the journey of the Hematology Laboratory and the modern Laboratory Medicine Department has begun. Every machine in these two laboratories is very important. At the same time, the journey of the automation process in the labs has begun. Through this, the quality of healthcare in the testing and reporting of the Hematology Laboratory and Laboratory Medicine Department will be improved and more helpful in diagnosing patients' diseases. In addition, there is a part for improving medical education. I hope that our journey will be stronger in the future."
Hospital Director Brigadier General Dr. AKM Mashiul Munir presided over the inauguration ceremony of the Hematology Laboratory, Laboratory Medicine Department and Automation Program.
