Banned BCL leader Nishi remanded in student assault case

A court here today placed Benazir Hossain Nishi, former joint general secretary of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), on a two-day remand in a case lodge for assaulting students of Dhaka University (DU) during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the order as police produced Nishi before the court and pleaded to place her on a 10-day remand in the case.
According to the case documents, cadres of Awami League and its front organisations launched a vicious attack on the students on DU premises on July 15. More than 300 students got injured in the attack.
