Staff Correspondent

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has instructed banks to freeze the accounts of former agriculture minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque and his family members.

According to letters sent by the BFIU, banks were asked to freeze accounts held by Razzaque, his wife Shirin Akhter Banu, their sons Rezwan Shahriar Sumit and Rezwan Shahnewaz Sujit, and daughter Farzana Akhter for the next 30 working days.

It also instructed to freeze accounts of the companies owned by them for the same period.

Besides, the anti-money laundering agency ordered that their locker facilities (if they have any) be suspended for the same duration.

Banks were also asked to send their account-related documents, including account opening forms, KYCs, and transaction details, to the BFIU.
