Bangladesh reaffirms commitment to halve road fatalities by 2030: Rabiul Alam

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has reaffirmed Bangladesh's firm commitment to reducing road accident fatalities and injuries by 50 percent by the year 2030.
He made this declaration while delivering the national statement at a high-level United Nations meeting on road safety development held at UN Headquarters on Tuesday.
The minister stated that in alignment with the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021–2030), Bangladesh is implementing various legal, policy, and technology-driven initiatives to strengthen road safety. He shared that the government is expanding artificial intelligence (AI)-based speed control systems, ensuring prompt emergency response services.
Minister Alam further announced that, guided by the Safe System Approach and international best practices, the government is committed to finalizing, approving, and enacting a comprehensive Road Safety Act by December 2027.
Describing road safety as a national political priority, the minister emphasized that strong political will, effective partnerships, and collective responsibility from all stakeholders are essential to achieving the 2030 targets.
He is leading the Bangladesh delegation at the high-level UN meeting on road safety. Other members of the delegation include Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, and Bangladesh Road Safety Project Director Mohammad Shabbir Hasan Khan.
