An attempted murder case filed against a government official in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia has created widespread sensation in the area. The incident, which took place in South Monohorpur village, has sparked tension, concern, and anger among local residents.According to the case statement and local sources, Md. Sanowar Hossain, a resident of South Monohorpur village, has long been accused of being involved in various criminal activities in the area. Locals claim that he is linked to threats, drug trafficking, and controlling juvenile gangs. Allegations have also been raised that he uses political influence to maintain dominance in the locality.These allegations resurfaced following a recent brutal attack. According to the case details, Sanowar Hossain attacked a man named Sajib with a sharp Chinese axe. With the intent to kill, he struck multiple blows to the victim’s head, leaving him critically injured. Sajib sustained severe injuries to his forehead and the right side of his body. Locals rescued him and rushed him to a hospital for treatment.In connection with the incident, Ramzan Ali filed a case at Kumarkhali Police Station on March 23, 2026 (Case No: 21). The case includes charges under sections 143/447/323/325/326/307/114 of the Penal Code.Further allegations state that during his tenure as president of South Monohorpur Secondary School, Sanowar Hossain misused his influence to commit various irregularities. According to locals, his actions are putting the youth at risk of drug addiction, which is severely harming the social environment.It has been learned that the accused is currently serving as a Principal Officer at the head office of the Sustainable Finance Unit (SFU) of a government institution. The serious allegations against a person holding such an important position have heightened public concern.Police from Kumarkhali Police Station stated that efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused, and the investigation into the case is in progress.Following the incident, unrest prevails throughout the area. Locals have demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and exemplary punishment. They have also urged the administration to take effective steps to restore law and order.
