Attempt to murder case against Shamim Osman,156 others in N’ganj

A case of attempt to murder has been filed against MKM Shamim Osman, former MP of Narayanganj-4, naming him as the primary accused, along with 156 others. The case stems from an incident where a young man, Mohammad Sabbir (20), was shot during a student-public protest.
Additionally, 20-30 unidentified leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations have been listed as accused in the case.
The victim filed a petition in court, which led to the court ordering Siddhirganj Police Station to register the case. This was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahinur Alam on Monday evening.
The accused include Shamim Osman's son Ayon Osman, nephew Azmeri Osman, Siddhirganj Thana Jubo League convenor Matiur Rahman Mati, and individuals from Narayanganj, Dhaka, and several other districts.
According to case documents, the incident occurred on July 25 at around 2:00 PM when student demonstrators gathered on Chittagong Road. The accused, listed as 1-156, along with the unidentified suspects, reportedly appeared armed with revolvers, pistols, sawed-off rifles, and other weapons. Under the orders of the top 15 accused, funded by suspects numbered 16-65, and planned by suspects numbered 66-80, they launched an unprovoked attack, firing on the protesters.
During the attack, Sabbir was shot and collapsed on the ground. He was later rushed to Khanpur 300-Bed Hospital in Narayanganj for treatment by some individuals present at the scene.
Interestingly, despite the incident occurring in Siddhirganj, individuals from districts like Dhaka, Madaripur, Satkhira, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Jhalokati, Meherpur, Brahmanbaria, Jashore, and Cumilla have also been named as accused in the case.
When asked why people from outside Narayanganj were included as suspects, OC Mohammad Shahinur Alam stated, This case was filed based on a court order. We registered it as per the court's directive, but we have no further information about the accused. The plaintiff can provide more details.
