Sylhet Correspondent

An attack on two journalists has been reported at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital while they were capturing video footage of a clash between intern doctors and relatives of a patient. The incident took place on Wednesday (October 28) around 9:30 PM on the fifth floor of the hospital.

The injured journalists have been identified as Reza Rubel, a photojournalist for the daily Shamol Sylhet, and Nibendu Talukdar, a reporter for SylhetView24.com. According to Reza Rubel, he was physically assaulted and suffered a head injury while recording the video.

Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, stated that the incident stemmed from a dispute between the patient's relatives and intern doctors, during which the two journalists were injured. He added that the situation is currently under control.

In response to the attack, journalists in Sylhet immediately organized a human chain and protest rally later that night. Leaders and members of various media organizations—including the Sylhet Press Club, Sylhet District Press Club, Photo Journalists Association, and Sylhet City Online Press Club—joined the demonstration.

Prominent local journalists, including Nobel Chowdhury, Habib Sarwar Azad, Shohidul Islam Suhel, and Abdul Malik, among others, attended the protest. They demanded guaranteed safety for working journalists and a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure exemplary punishment for those involved.
