Attack on Narayanganj Press Club : 5 journalists injured, one detained

Miscreants attacked the traditional Narayanganj Press Club. At least 5 journalists, including the former general secretary of the Press Club and a staff reporter of Daily Amar Desh, were injured in the attack. Police arrested a person named Roni in this incident. The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon.

Narayanganj Press Club General Secretary Rafiqul Islam Jiban said that around 1 pm a group of 20 to 25 miscreants attacked and vandalized the fifth floor of the club. At this time, the journalists staying at the club tried to stop them. But the miscreants attacked the journalists. During this time, at least 5 people were injured, including the president of the Narayananj District of the Journalist Union, the former staff reporter of Amar Desh newspaper and the former general secretary of the Press Club, Abu Saud Masud. The miscreants fled when the police came to the spot on receiving information.

Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station OC Nazrul Islam has arrested a person named Masud Rana Roni in this incident. Arrested Roni is a close associate of Narayanganj Mahanagar BNP convenor advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan. Police said that efforts are underway to arrest others involved in the attack.

Two brothers died in fire in Narayanganj

In Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district, two brothers died due to fire caused by leakage of gas pipeline. The deceased are - Md. Jewel (22) and Md. Ismail (16). They are undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Center (ICU) of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the early hours of Tuesday (October 29).

Earlier on Friday (October 25) a house in Dohargaon area of Rupganj caught fire due to gas pipeline leakage and 6 members of the same family got burnt. Later they were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery resident doctor Tariqul Islam confirmed the death and said that 70 percent of Sohail's body and 55 percent of baby Ismail's body were burnt. Four members of the family are still undergoing treatment in the ICU. The father of the deceased among them. Babul Hossain, 66 percent of his body, mother Shelly 30 percent, sister Munni 20 percent and Taslima 63 percent were burnt. Their condition is critical.

Abdus Sobahan, the uncle of the deceased, said that all the victims worked in a garment factory in Rupganj.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp Incharge (Inspector) Md. Farooq confirmed the death and said that the body has been kept in the morgue of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. The matter has been reported to Shahbag police station.
