Army chief made colonel of infantry regiment

Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman was inducted as the 7th colonel of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment, also known as the Regiment of the Millennium in the country, at a military function at the Rajshahi Cantonment on Thursday.

Upon the army chief’s arrival at the ceremony the regiment’s senior-most master warrant office honoured him with the colonel’s badge, officially giving him guardianship over the infantry regiment, only the second in the history of Bangladesh after the East Bengal Regiment.

Afterwards, General Waker delivered a speech addressing the regiment. He recalled the sacrifices of all valiant members of the regiment and other martyrs during the 1971 Liberation War. He also highlighted the proud history of the infantry regiment, and its service for the nation.

He also lauded the regiment for its role in international affairs and congratulated regiment personnel to this end. The army chief called on all regiment personnel to be every prepared for meeting 21st century challenges by taking modern and updated trainings.
