Angry mob demolishes Shamim Osman’s grandfather's house

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj

The vandalism of 'Baitul Aman', the grandfather's house of former Narayanganj MP Shamim Osman, has sparked a strong reaction from the angry mob. This traditional house located in Chashara area was demolished with a bulldozer on Thursday night.

According to local sources, *Baitul Aman* had been under illegal occupation for a long time, obstructing public movement. There were also allegations that political influence was used to retain control over the property. From Thursday evening, hundreds of people began gathering in the Chashara area, chanting slogans such as *"Demolish the occupiers' house!"* They then stationed themselves in front of the house, accusing the administration of inaction before bringing in an excavator to begin the demolition.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident but did not intervene directly, instead choosing to monitor the situation. The officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station stated, *"We are trying to maintain control over the situation. Legal action will be taken if any disorder occurs."*

Many local residents supported the demolition. One local individual commented, *"This house should have become public property. Those who abuse their power to accumulate wealth will inevitably face such consequences."*

Tension continues to grip the area, with law enforcement remaining on high alert. There is growing curiosity among locals regarding who will take control of the land and what actions the authorities will take next.
