Angry farmers broke into the warehouse of a BCIC fertilizer dealer in Bhurungamari, Kurigram, after not receiving the fertilizer they needed, looting 202 sacks of about 10,100 kg of urea fertilizer. The incident took place at Dhaldanga Bazar in Shilkhuri Union of the upazila on Sunday (August 23) afternoon.

According to local sources, after not receiving fertilizer for the past three days during the peak planting season, a large number of farmers of Shilkhuri Union have been visiting the BCIC-approved fertilizer dealer M/s Shah Amanat Enterprise dealer point in Dhaldanga Bazar since morning to get fertilizer.

Gathered. After a long wait, when the dealer point did not open, the farmers broke down the warehouse door and looted 202 bags of urea fertilizer.

Locals alleged that Taifur Rahman Mukul, the owner of Shilkhuri Union's dealer M/s Shah Amanat Enterprise, was slow to give the fertilizer to the farmers despite receiving sufficient allocation. His total allocation was 1320 bags of fertilizer. Out of this, 340 bags of fertilizer were stored in the warehouse. So the aggrieved farmers broke down the door and took the fertilizer.

Later, upon receiving the information, a team of Bhurungamari police station reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Taifur Rahman Mukul, owner of M/s Shah Amanat Enterprise, said, "I have lifted 340 bags of fertilizer as per the latest DO. Today, a large number of farmers were present during the distribution. Before they could realize anything, local farmers broke the door of the warehouse and looted 202 bags of fertilizer. The remaining 138 bags of urea fertilizer could not be distributed. They are kept in the warehouse.

Bhurungamari Police Station OC Azimuddin said that the demand in that union was about 4,000 bags of fertilizer. The extraction was even less. As a result, farmers took the fertilizer from the warehouse out of fear of not getting it. After receiving the information, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under complete control. Later, due to the police's action, 60 farmers returned 60 bags of fertilizer by 4 pm.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Abdul Jabbar said that the total allocation for that union was 1,320 bags of urea fertilizer. Out of this, the dealer has extracted 340 bags of fertilizer this time.

Bhurungamari UNO Amrit Debnath said, "I and ASP Sakel are at the spot. Efforts are underway to recover the fertilizer. We will monitor the matter and report to the Deputy Commissioner."
