Md. Amirul Islam (Babu), a member of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) executive committee, has been appointed as the new team manager of the Bangladesh National Football Team, replacing Amer Khan, who held the position for a long time. He returns to manage the men's team after a long hiatus.

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) announced the decision on Sunday. BFF brought this reshuffle in the national team ahead of the 'FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026', scheduled to be held in Indonesia during the FIFA window in September-October 2026.

In the upcoming tournament, BFF Executive Committee member Md. Iqbal Hossain will serve as the team leader for the Bangladesh side, while fellow executive member Md. Amirul Islam will handle the core administrative duties as the team manager.

Meanwhile, BFF National Teams Committee member Md. Amer Khan will serve as the team coordinator. Amer Khan had been serving as the manager of the national team for the past year and a half.

However, because he was not an elected member of the BFF executive committee, there was latent discontent within the federation regarding his appointment. Several elected members argued that this prestigious position should be given to someone from among themselves.

These demands grew stronger recently after Amirul Islam Babu openly expressed his desire to become the manager. The BFF's decision makes it clear that the federation ultimately respected the demands of its elected members.

Amirul Islam initially served as the manager of the Bangladesh men's football team before managing the women's national football team for an extended period. Riding on the success he achieved there, he has now returned to manage the men's team once again.
