Police have arrested Shahriar, described as the alleged mastermind of the attack and vandalism at content creator Salman Muqtadir’s Brownfish Studio and the surrounding land at ECB Chattar in the capital.

Shahriar was arrested from the Minto Road area on Sunday afternoon, said Nazmul Hoque, Assistant Commissioner of the DMP’s Cantonment Zone.

With his arrest, the total number of people detained in connection with the incident rose to four.

Cantonment police arrested Shahriar based on secret information, the police official said.

Earlier, two people were detained from the spot late Saturday night, while another was detained later in a police operation.

The three were identified as Md Mamun of Bhasantek slum and Aslam and Munna of Majumdar Mor area.

Cantonment Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Gias Uddin said the attack stemmed from a dispute between New Gini Properties Limited, owner of the land where the studio is located, and other landowners in the area.

Police said Salman Muqtadir had set up the studio by renting a floor from New Gini Properties.

The studio was vandalised during the attack, police said.

Salman alleged that a group of people arrived in two trucks and attacked the studio late Saturday night.

In a live broadcast from the Brownfish Studio Facebook page, Salman said the studio had just been attacked and completely destroyed.

He later alleged that the attackers’ main target might have been the owner of the property, who apparently refused to pay extortion money. 

OC Gias Uddin said New Gini Properties, which was in possession of the land and rented out the studio space to Muqtadir, had erected a gate on the land, restricting access for others.

“People from the opposing side went there after becoming angry over the problems with movement. We have already arrested the mastermind. Our operation to arrest the others is continuing,” he said.
