Alleged death of garment worker due to electrocution in Gazipur

Garment worker Alpana Akhter (25) died after being electrocuted by an electric pole in Kaliakore, Gazipur. She is the wife of Shamsuzzaman of Bikalika village in Netrakona. The Ulus of Kaliakor used to work in the local garment factory by renting from the house of Kazi Ekhlas of the area. On Tuesday (May 28) at 8 a.m., the worker was electrocuted by an electric pole near the Ulusara Dongbang factory and lay dead.

Inspector (Investigation) of Kaliakor police station Sajid confirmed the matter.

Inspector (Investigation) Sajid of Kaliakor police station said that the locals complained that two people died due to electrocution on the same pole. That electric pole gets electrified when it rains a little. Although the residents complained to the rural electricity office, the authorities did not take any action to resolve the matter.

In this incident, Shamsuzzaman, the husband of the deceased, filed a complaint at the police station. When asked whether any action will be taken regarding the repeated deaths due to the negligence of the electricity department, he said that no one has filed a complaint against the electricity department yet.

The Chandra zonal office of Palli Vidyut Samiti in Kaliakore was called several times but could not be contacted as it was not received.

Gazipur Palli Vidyut Samiti-1 Senior General Manager Abul Bashar Azad did not receive any comment after calling him.

The body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
