AL's nomination aspirants will fight as independent candidates against 'boat'

More than a dozen leaders have already announced to be independent candidates in various parliamentary constituencies.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with all the boat nomination candidates at Ganabhaban on Sunday. Awami League leaders said that he talked about contesting the election in that meeting. According to them, the prime minister also directed the boat candidates not to exert pressure on independent candidates. After that, Arifur Rahman posted on his Facebook while he was present at the meeting. He sought nomination of boat from Faridpur-1 seat. Awami League presidium member Abdur Rahman has received party nomination for this seat.

Talking to various levels of leaders of Awami League, it was revealed. They say that the main opposition party BNP has already announced not to come to the election this time. As a result, Awami League does not have a strong opponent in the field. Awami League, which has been in power for three consecutive terms to create a transparent image, had indications of changing candidates in many constituencies.
Therefore, the leaders have already done extensive public relations in their respective areas. He also spent money on campaigning to get nomination against the current member of parliament. Apart from this, responsibility has also been created for those who have supported the campaign. Now that there is an opportunity for independent candidates, they want to be in the polling field. Again, 71 members of the current parliament lost their nomination. Some of them think that they can win even by fighting against the boat. So they can now fight against the boat.


Member of Parliament of Chittagong-12 Constituency and current Whip of Parliament Samshul Haque Chowdhury has been in controversy several times due to various incidents. This time Chittagong South District Awami League President Motaherul Islam Chowdhury got the boat nomination instead of him. He recently resigned from the post of Patia Upazila Chairman. However, Samshul Haque is not leaving the field. Even if he does not get the party nomination, he is thinking of contesting the election as an independent candidate.

Canada Awami League founder and Sylhet district Awami League member Sarwar Hossain has announced to be an independent candidate for Sylhet-6 seat. He wrote on Facebook, "I will be an independent candidate under the leadership of the leader, Insha Allah." Awami League leader Mashiur Rahman Molla, son of former member of parliament Habibur Rahman Molla, is preparing to become an independent candidate in Dhaka-5 constituency. His brother and former president of Demra Thana Chhatra League Mahufuzur Rahman Mollah made this announcement on Facebook on his behalf.

Member of Parliament Kazi Keramat Ali has been nominated for Rajbari-1 constituency for the sixth time in a row. Imdadul Haque Biswas, chairman of Rajbari Sadar upazila for four consecutive times, wants to fight as an independent candidate there. For this reason, he has recently submitted his resignation letter as the upazila chairman.

Sahabuddin Asdasya, the central leader of Svechchasevak League, did not seek the nomination of the boat. Sahabuddin Ahmed will fight here independently. The current MP Momtaz Begum is the candidate of the boat against him.


Doctor Touhiduzzaman Tuhin has been nominated for Jessore-2 (Chaugacha-Jhikargacha) seat for the first time. He is the son-in-law of senior Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed. Former Member of Parliament Monirul Islam Monir has expressed interest in contesting as an independent candidate in this seat. He wanted to know the opinion of the local people by posting on Facebook. Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafar Uliah has again been nominated for Faridpur-4 seat.


Before this, he lost twice in a row to independent candidate Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury (Nixon). Nixon, the current Member of Parliament and Jubo League presidium member, did not get a boat this time either. But as before, he is still in the fight for votes.

Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, the current Member of Parliament and Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, has again got a boat in Rangpur-6 Constituency. District Awami League member and businessman Sirajul Islam is an independent candidate from here without getting a boat. He has already collected nomination papers.

Lawyer Sayedul Haque Sumon did not get a boat in Habiganj-4 (Chunarughat-Madhavpur) constituency. He has already announced that he will contest as an independent candidate on Facebook. Saidul Haque Sumon has started the election work, it has been reported in several posts on Facebook. Current Member of Parliament Shafiqur Rahman has been nominated again for Chandpur-4 Constituency. Former Member of Parliament Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan is an independent candidate here. He is also preparing for election from Chandupur-3 seat.

Central Awami League leader Salim Mahmud got a boat in Chandpur-1 constituency. Former Commerce Secretary Golam Hossain is an independent candidate here. In Chandpur, other constituencies are also fighting for an independent candidate. Brahmanbaria-2 Constituency got a boat. Shahjahan Alam Volunteer League leader Moinuddin Moin will fight here as an independent candidate.

Mushtaq Ahmed Ruhi has got a boat nomination for Netrokona-1 (Durgapur-Kalmakanda) seat. Jannatul Ferdous Jhuma Talukder, daughter of former Member of Parliament late Jalal Uddin Talukder, has announced to be an independent candidate here. He did not seek the nomination of the boat. Durgapur Upazila Parishad chairman resigned to become a candidate in the national elections.

Awami League candidates won unopposed in 153 seats in 2014 elections held without BNP. Awami League does not want to see its repetition this time. Competition is also sought in the field to increase voter turnout. So Awami League wants to use the leaders who bought 3 thousand 356 application forms to get boats. Enthusiasm is spreading among the boatless leaders all over the country. The last date for submission of nomination papers for candidates is 30 November. They want to leave the post of chairman and contest the parliamentary elections.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader spoke about the rebels. He said, the team has to adopt new strategies in new times. The leader has decided the strategy that is needed at this time.

According to the position of the party, the party leadership takes decisions and gives the future. Following the guidelines given by party president Sheikh Hasina, there is no obstacle to be a candidate.
