Administration's drive to protect environment ;: Bulkhead, dredger seized, two arrested in Chattak

Two people have been arrested for illegally extracting sand in Chhattak. A special task force conducted a raid in the Sonai River and the surrounding forest area adjacent to the Baishakandi Rubber Dam in Islam Pur Union of the upazila in the early hours of Friday and arrested two people for illegally extracting sand.
 
The two arrested are Habibur Rahman (37) of Gangpar Noakot village in Islampur union and Fajr Ali (20) of Baishakandi village. After the raid, they confessed to the crime before a mobile court and were given a light sentence of seven days' imprisonment.
 
The operation was conducted by Chhatak UNO  Md. Tariqul Islam and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sanjay Das. The operation was led by Chhatak Police Station SI Golam Sarwar, BIT officer Ayub Ali, Noakot BGB and Ansar force members were present.
 
Meanwhile, during the morning operation, three more bulkhead boats and a dredger machine were seized while illegally extracting sand from a place called Rajendrapur-Abdali in Islampur Union. The criminals escaped during the operation. Upazila Forest Officer Md. Ayub Khan seized these goods in front of two witnesses present. The seized bulkhead and dredger machine were confiscated in favor of the state as they were used in environmentally destructive activities. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Tariqul Islam said that instructions have been given to the concerned officer to file regular cases against the absconding accused. Such operations will continue in the public interest and to protect the environment.##
